Melissa Attlee, CPM, LM

Melissa served in the Marine Corps for 9 years (2007-2016) as a photojournalist, including a tour in Iraq in 2009. This career led her to getting in Marketing and Advertising which she used to continue to work for the military in a civilian contractor capacity for 5 years after leaving the service. This is an unorthodox start for a midwife right?

She knew she wanted to be a midwife after the birth of her first daughter in 2010. She was scared away from the profession by nay sayers and worked in marketing and public relations for years – feeling too afraid to take the plunge. To fill the void she informally provided child birth education and doula services for years for friends and acquaintances – until she eventually became a certified BBC Doula in 2019 and started midwifery school shortly after.

She became a Licensed Midwife (LM) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in 2023. She wouldn’t trade my years in the military or those that followed – they shaped me into the person she is and therefore – the midwife that she is. However, beginning her midwifery journey felt like coming home. She is where she was always meant to be!
